The AC adapter works fine but what good is that other than to charge the phone. Had the same problem with the connector that someone else reported. It died on April 10th. Don't know how long the others were using theirs but I got mine late Jan. Then a few days ago I "dock" my phone and the LED's go off. No matter what I do the "dock" is dead.
The extra battery is easy to get in and out. Is that a dangerous situation. Thankfully no blinding/flashing lights and the extra battery's charger can be used on the phone. Ordered one in Dec and received one that looks like the picture (extra battery lays flat). Both cradles work as described. Why. Phone placement on both is a little tricky at first but gets easir as they are used.
The real turn off (no pun intended) are the annoying LEDs. The extra battery sits upright requiring prior phone removal and use of two hands due to a snug fit. This is a different design. I put electrical tape over the blue one (that only signifies it's plugged in) after being blinded by it multiple times. Another piece of tape.I ordered the second one in January from AccessoryOne.
This works well for charging both the phone and the battery. Try working with that in the corner of your eye all day. It works fine when the battery is in the slot but it constantly flashes green and a sparkling red when the battery is not present. The charger for the extra battery cannot be used directly on the phone. Then there's the extra battery LED.
The blue "power" LED is constantly on and on mine does NOT blink. Not wanting to chance damaging my PC motherboard, I will keep only one or the other plugged in until I find out for sure (my dock did NOT come with any instructions at all).It charges batteries just fine, I think. You could probably use just about any mini USB power brick for this thing, as long as it has a high enough power rating. The 6800 fits well enough into the socket, but the nature of the phone design means you have to be careful putting it into the cradle. The blue LED is bright enough to blind you or stun small children, or at least it'll light up the room at night.Definitely worth the $12 I paid. Maybe if mine had that "missing" clear plastic piece, it would plug in better. In addition to a mini-USB port for the power brick, the dock has a standard USB cable (which is hard-wired into my dock), and the sync works fine through the dock itself. Seems like it's hit and miss what people are getting when they order this thing. The device I received looks somewhat similar to the pictured device, but it is a different dock.
It's the same type you see on most small electronic devices these days (exactly like the 6800 USB port).I use my old PPC-6700 charger, since it's more powerful and less cheap than the one that came with the dock. The left LED light changes to red when charging, green when the battery is charged. It does not have the clear plastic piece as shown in the pic, and it came with a very cheap power brick which one or two other buyers didn't receive. I think you're not supposed to have both sync cable and power brick plugged in at the same time, but I'm not sure. It's cheap, but it works and is MUCH more convenient than having to lay the phone down on a flat surface to charge or sync. One buyer said their base's charger was not USB but something else, but mine is definitely mini-USB.
This is more of a "design flaw" of the 6800 than the cradle, but they could have made the cradle to make this easier.
I am going to purchase another for the business office. I plugged my charger into it at home office for a faster charge and with Blue tooth sync works fine. Perfect product even though it does not come with power adpter. But then, that would put the price up another 4 to 8 bucks.
The blinking LED on the back is also annoying if u like your bedroom totally dark while charging your phone but is easily covered up. It forms a huge 3' blue circle on the ceiling. I had to put black electrical tape over it. Products fit and finish is good. Good product. BUT. Works as advertised. The blue LED on the front of the unit is as bright as a AA flashlight.
